The composition of coatings used for coating processing mainly includes adhesives, pigments and other auxiliaries. Dispersing agent which mostly regarding as surfactants is one of the most important auxiliary in paper coatings.Main functions are as follows:

①　Give each pigment particle charge, so that they produce a repulsive force on each other;

②　Cover the surface of each pigment particle, play the role of protective colloid;

③　A high viscosity state is formed around the particles to prevent the individual particles from agglutinating.

When coating, pigment dispersing agent is generally added to the coating formula, otherwise the coating layer is too thick and uneven. The overall function of the dispersing agent is to ensure that the pigment in the coating does not flocculate and settle, and make the viscosity of the coating as low as possible, with good fluidity and coating adaptability, and improve the miscibility of the adhesive and the pigment to achieve the effect of improving the surface strength and printing adaptability of the coated paper. To use, dissolve the dispersing agent in water first, and then add the pigment.

With the use of blade knife coater and rod coater, it is necessary to use high solid content coating in order to improve the speed and energy saving. Polymer organic dispersing agents are usually used, such as sodium polyacrylate solution, sodium polymethacrylate and its derivatives or disodium salt solution of diisobutene and maleic anhydride copolymer, as well as alkyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether, fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether. Generally, surfactants with a higher HLB value (10 ~ 20) should be selected. Their dosage is usually between 0.1% and 3.0%.
