When your finished products need to be printed, do you encounter the problem of not knowing how to choose printing paper? Since there are many kinds and types of printing paper, here we only talk about some of the most commonly used papers in daily printing to introduce in detail:
A. Coated papers: art paper(copper plate paper), white cardboard, light weight coated paper(LWC), etc.;
B. Non-coated papers: offset paper, Dowling paper, pure paper, light paper, etc.;
C. Specialty paper are divided into coated and non-coated D. Kraft paper
Let’s find out together below!
A. Coated Paper
Coated paper is coated with a layer of coating chemicals on the base paper to give the paper good optical properties and printing performance. After drying, a calender is used to smooth the surface; The commonly used base paper is offset paper or writing paper, etc. The coating chemical is generally water-based. For PANTONE chromatography, the corresponding PANTONE + SOLID COATED should be used

1. Art paper
1.1 Art paper refers to double-sided coated paper, which is called powder paper in Hong Kong and other regions.
Mainly used for printing business cards, picture albums, covers and illustrations of high-end books and periodicals, DM sheets, folding pages, various exquisite product advertisements, samples, product packaging, and trademarks. Single copper paper can be printed as calendars, posters, handbags, cartons and other single-sided printed matter.
Common quantities of coated (GSM) paper include 80g, 105g, 128g, 157g, 200g, 250g, and 300g.

Why is coated art paper also called "Powder paper"?
The original English name of powder paper is Art Paper. This kind of paper is a coated and processed paper first developed by the British in the mid-19th century. High-grade printing paper is made by mixing white and fine porcelain clay into paint and evenly applying it on the surface of the base paper (coating one side or both sides). Because the process is like a woman applying powder to her face, it is called powder paper.
1.2 Coated art paper can be divided into single copper white cardboard (single-sided coating) and double-coated paper (double-sided coating) according to the coating coverage;
Single copper white cardboard is commonly used in handbags, album covers, packaging boxes, cardboard boxes, cards, etc.;
Common quantities of single side white cardboard are 210g, 230g, 250g, 300g, and 350g.

Commonly used for handbags is 250g single copper white cardboard
1.3 Coated paper can be divided into glossy coated paper and matte powder paper according to the degree of smoothness;
The difference in texture between copper plate paper and matte paper:
The manufacturing principle of coated art paper is to apply a layer of white coating paint on the base paper and then calender it. Its biggest feature is the smoothness of the paper, which is very smooth compared to ordinary paper. In addition, there are also relatively high requirements for whiteness. Based on this characteristic, coated art paper will have a more obvious reflective effect when facing the light.

Matte Powder Paper Picture Album
In a sense, matte powder paper can also be regarded as a type of coated paper. Its official name is "matte coated paper". Compared with coated art paper, matte powder paper is a more high-end paper. The difference between the two is that there is no obvious reflection. Although the effect of machine printing on matte powder paper is not as bright as coated paper, while in terms of fineness, matte powder paper is better.
2. Light Weight Coated Paper (LWC)

The most common seen in IKEA journals
Light weight coated paper is also called light coated paper, or LWC paper (Low Weight Coated Paper). It refers to a type of coated processing paper with a low weight, both front and back sides are coated with thin coating materials.
LWC paper has high quality (the color printing effect is comparable to that of coated paper), low cost (it is mixed with cheap mechanical wood pulp), high added value (the price is higher than ordinary printing paper, but much cheaper than coated paper). It has the advantages of adapting to rapid transfer printing and is mainly used for printing periodicals, advertisements, product catalogs, etc.
The common GSM of LWC paper are 58g、64g、70g、80g.
B. Non-coated Paper
The surface of non-coated paper has no coating, exposed fibers, is relatively rough, and has strong ink absorption. PANTONE chromatography should use the corresponding PANTONE+SOLID UNCOATED.
1. Double offset paper
Double offset paper is a type of paper made from low-density fibers (such as straw pulp). During the papermaking process, adhesive is applied to both sides of the paper to improve its surface properties, resulting in a slightly rough surface. In short, A4 paper used on printers is double adhesive paper.
Double offset paper is a commonly used paper, mainly used for printing books, journals, magazines, books, notebooks, envelopes, letter paper, etc.

Double off-set paper: The surface is the same as the A4 printing paper(Matte)
The common weights (GSM) are: 70g、80g、100g、120g、140g、180g.
2. Dowling paper
Dowling paper is a brand of offset paper. The color is a specific cream color. It can be used as the inner pages of notebooks. It is a relatively high-end paper. It was originally manufactured by Dowling Company in the United States. Offset printing paper is a relatively high-end printing paper for books and periodicals. Many notebooks sold in bookstores are made of Dowling paper. Dowling paper feels powderful surface and is not as smooth as coated paper. Non-reflective, the paper is very fine.

3. Pure paper
Pure paper is refined from 100% imported high-quality wood fibers, and the product has all the natural characteristics of paper with advanced environmental protection concepts. Paper is ultra light and thick, economical and practical. Pure paper is cream colored. Its smooth and matte surface makes printing more three-dimensional. The books printed with it are made of soft paper with gentle colors. Its ultra-low reflectivity and natural atmosphere will bring you a brand new feeling.

4. Light paper
Lightweight paper, also known as light offset paper, is a more humanized type of paper and a rising star in the paper industry. It is of excellent quality, light weight, low price, does not contain fluorescent whitening agents, has a high mechanical pulp content, and is environmentally friendly and comfortable. The color of lightweight paper is relatively dark, and the original color tone used can protect the eyes of readers, especially the elderly and children, so that they can protect their vision from harm while reading, making it easy for reading, and has natural characteristics. Lightweight paper has a good texture and loose thickness, high opacity, good printing adaptability, and good reproduction of the original manuscript after printing. It has a good texture and is lightweight and thick. Books printed with it are about a quarter to a third lighter than those printed with regular paper, which is convenient for readers and saves transportation and mail order costs.

C. Specialty paper
There are hundreds of different types of specialty paper on the market, and there are countless domestic or imported manufacturers/brands. There is no unified name for each manufacturer/brand, so we will not list them one by one. 1. Thermal paper
Thermal paper: used as a communication carrier for text and graphics on fax machines, that is, as fax paper; used as recording materials in medical and measurement systems, such as electrocardiograms, thermal instrument recording paper, etc.; used in printing paper for Internet terminals; In terms of commercial activities, it is used to make trademarks, signatures (POS), etc., among which fax paper accounts for the largest proportion.
The production principle of thermal paper is to coat ordinary paper base with particulate powder. The ingredients are colorless dyes, phenols or other acidic substances, separated by thin films. Under heating conditions, the thin film melts and the powder is mixed to cause a color reaction. Thermal sensitive paper The colored writing on the paper is unstable and fades easily, making the document content difficult to read.
Commonly used lottery tickets use thermal paper.
Ordinary thermal paper is not suitable for long-term storage, but good thermal paper can be stored for 30 years or even longer.

2. Sublimation paper
Sublimation transfer is to use an inkjet printer equipped with heat transfer ink to print portraits, landscapes, text and other graphics on the sublimation transfer paper in a mirror-reversal manner, and then use the thermal transfer equipment to heat it to 200℃ Around the time, the heat transfer ink on the sublimation paper will penetrate into the substrate in the form of vaporization, thereby realistically transferring the image color on the paper to textiles, porcelain cups, porcelain plates, porcelain plates, metal and other materials.Paper usage: transferable: non-cotton T-shirts (cotton content less than 30%), ceramic cups and plates, porcelain tiles, puzzles, metal plates, pearlescent boards, slate paintings, pillows, school bags, mobile phone cases, mouse pads and other flat surfaces product.

3. NCR(Carbonless) paper
It can be used for copying, producing the same effect as blue copying paper,and it will not stain fingers and clothing, making it more convenient and hygienic. Due to the lack of carbon material used in the production of this paper, it is named Carbonless Copying Paper
Carbonless paper is divided into upper page paper, middle page paper, and lower page paper.
The upper paper is called CB paper, and only the lower side coated with CB medicine is called CB surface; The next page of paper is called CF paper, and only one side coated with CF medicine is called CF surface; Middle page paper is called CFB paper, with the top side coated as CF and the bottom side coated as CB.
There are roughly 5 colors of carbonless paper: including white, red, blue, green, and yellow, play a role in distinguishing between linked orders!

4. Top white liner paper
The basic weight of the white top liner is about 150-300 g/m2.This type of paper is also divided into two grades of pure pulp (the strength is much higher) and waste pulp.The Asian folding-carton industry is particular about its whiteness and tear strength.
White top liner is equipped with higher folding endurance, stiffness and higher thickness uniformity. The smoothness and the printability on the front side are higher, which is good for printing application.
White top liner is used for bobbins and color boxes.It is widely used as wrapping materials after printing.Furthermore, white top liner can be used as cement bag paper, carrier bag, envelope paper, adhesive sealing paper, asphalt paper, cable protective paper, insulation paper etc.

D. Kraft paper
Kraft paper has high strength and is usually yellowish brown. Semi-bleached or fully bleached kraft paper pulp is light brown, cream or white. Widely used in various packaging, color boxes, paper bags, notebooks, envelopes, etc.
