SBR latex using in paper coating industry
Styrene butadiene latex (SBR latex) is one of the most important components of synthetic latex, and its output accounts for about 20% of the total output of synthetic rubber and 80% of the total output of synthetic latex. The largest use of SBR latex is paper coating. SBR latex is generally used as a binder for pigments, and in most cases is used in combination with natural adhesives such as starch. Although the amount is small (about 10% by weight, about 20% by volume), it has a significant impact on coating adaptability and printing adaptability.
The most important function of SBR latex for paper coating is to give the surface strength of the coated paper to resist printing. The principle is generally believed that the SBR latex particles in the coating are affected by the surface tension of water during the coating drying process, and move with the movement of water, and finally gather at the contact point between the pigments. Therefore, in order to effectively play the role of SBR latex as a binder, SBR latex particles must be independently and stably dispersed in the coating water phase.
